Kings Road Duplication, Taylors Lakes
The major component of this contract was the design and construction of the roadworks under an operating and electrified railway bridge. The project involved extensive bridge protection works and the removal of rock beneath the bridge by means of a rock saw on the bridge abutment to widen the roadway and allow additional lanes. Work also included rock bolting, soil nailing and shot-creting to protect the rock face. Rock drilling and sawing under an operating rail bridge requires much precision and skill to avoid any movement of the rock face and possible subsidence of the bridge. For this reason, drilling and blasting of the rock was not chosen. All the design and construction work on this project required a high level of interface management, most notably with Connex and VicTrack.
